My client is a highly successful construction related business that has been in operation for over 20 years. At the heart of the business is an owner operator who is passionate about the business, the recurring client base, and their people. Whilst the business has grown there are still opportunities to develop and expand their client base further, building on their excellent reputation.

Due to a recent change in the leadership structure and the owners desire to take a step back in the business, there is currently the need for a General Manager across their Auckland business to help support the transition and to continue to grow the business.

About the Role
The General manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of business, leading the management team, driving sales, and ensuring the business operates across best practice, fostering a strong workplace culture that embraces individuals, their culture and understands the strengths each person can bring to the organisation.

The General Manager will heavily contribute to the strategic direction and what the journey looks like, ensuring the team are engaged and presented with a vision. The General Manager will also be responsible for managing key accounts, responding to tenders, and forging new relationships and strengthening existing ones. As the General Manager you will also be responsible for managing key risks associated with the business, driving a culture of Health and Safety resolving issues and challenges as they arise.

Key responsibilities in the role will include:
  • Team Leadership and management
  • Key account management and tender response
  • P+L Management
  • Managing performance against metrics across several areas of the business
  • Working as part of a high performing team
  • Driving a great culture and creating a diverse workplace of choice within the industry

  About You
You will be an experienced leader with strong ties to the construction industry either as a practitioner or a service supplier. You must have an excellent commercial understanding of the mechanics behind a business including financials, marketing and the cogs that help a business run. Whilst this is not a sales role, managing clients and responding to tenders will be second nature to you as will be motivating a team and being visible in the office and on client sites.

Personal attributes should include:
  • Senior leadership experience within a construction related field.
  • Excellent communication skills across a broad audience
  • Commercial acumen
  • Experience building strong stakeholder relationships.
